Drimnin View
Built sometime in the 1980’s this 7 ish bed-roomed house resides nestled into a fairly sheltered landscape with open views over Tobermory bay, Calve Island, Sound of Mull and Drimnin on the mainland. In Tobermory unless you’re on the main street / harbour there’s always an uphill stroll to your destination, we’re approximately a 5 min brisk walk down to the main street, there’s several ways to get there but all provide a stunning view.
The Location
We’re a few feet away from the Tobar Mhoire Well which gives its name to the town, “The well of Mary” dedicated to the Virgin Mary. From 1788 Tobermory was first planned as a fishing port, but obviously the island was populated long before, agricultural settlements have been found from the 6th century.
Many of the main street harbour buildings are brightly coloured and picturesque, being the location for the well known children’s TV series Balamory.
More recently the Island as a whole is fame for it’s wildlife, white tailed & golden eagles, osprey, buzzards, hawks along with otters, dolphins, porpoises and if you’re lucky various whales including orcas. This has led to numerous visits and nature programmes by the BBC spring / autumn watch amongst others.
The islands ‘mostly open’ year round and if you’re a wildlife enthusiast being selective on when you visit can gain the most rewards. When the day tour groups & frantic visitors ebb, from September to April you’ll feel like you have the island to yourself.
You may chuckle when you see the warning road sign for otters but occasionally they do cross the road!
Bed & Breakfast Amenties
All rooms have en-suite rooms with shower, wc, basin, towel rail and complimentary toiletries. Except a twin room which has a private bathroom with the above facilities and a bath, handy if you’ve been out for a long hike or even conquered Ben More. There are steps to the front door which leads to the ground floor, here you’ll also find a spacious breakfast room. Breakfast is usually served between 07:30-09:00 but you want an earlier time just let us know, we only ask that you select from the menu what you’d like before you retire for the evening then it’ll be ready for you.
Further stairs take you to the 1st floor with other guest rooms.
There’s ample off road parking which is very handy because parking within the harbour & main street is often oversubscribed at busy times.
A short walk in the other direction takes you to the Isle of Mull Cheese Farm complete with ‘Glasshouse’ cafe, ideal for a lunchtime snack, if you need to build large appetite heading for the cafe at Glengorm castle will reward you with great views.
